The NCC-CSIRT is the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) for the Nigerian telecommunications industry spearheaded by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The NCC-CSIRT provides an official point of contact for dealing with computer security incidents for the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

NCC-CSIRT collaborates with the public sector, MNOs (Mobile Network Operators), ISPs (Internet Service Providers), other telecommunications service providers and stakeholders to handle computer security incidents affecting the telecommunications industry. NCC-CSIRT aspires to be a full and active member of the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) and will coordinate with trusted CSIRTs both globally and regionally in responding to computer security incidents.

The role of the NCC-CSIRT includes but is not limited to;

  • Responding to reported incidents from telecommunications industry players, both major and minor;
  • Monitoring incidents at a national and sectoral level, providing early warning to service providers;
  • Disseminating information about threats, risks and incidents;
  • Participating in the international network of CSIRTs.
  •  Maintaining cooperative and collaborative contacts with MDAs and the private sector.
  • Supporting the telecommunications industry in developing and implementing measures to ensure the continuity and resiliency of their infrastructure.
  • Performing incident analyses and assisting in process and technical investigations.
